A total of 35 Covid-19 positive cases have been recorded at the active construction site of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) in Polihali, Mokhotlong.

“We confirm that we are aware of recently detected COVID-19 cases at some of the project sites in Polihali,” said Mpho Brown, the public relations manager for the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA).

Brown added: “In the past two weeks, 22 cases positive for COVID-19 were recorded at one of our construction sites, whilst another site recorded 13 cases.”

He explained that all employees at the second site, where 13 cases were recorded, are now back at work after being isolated for five days with mild symptoms.

Workers at the site with 22 cases were referred to Mokhotlong Hospital for anti-viral treatment.

“While most of them are also back at work, six still remain in isolation,” Brown told Uncensored News on January 20, 2025.

He stressed that the LHDA takes the health, safety, and wellness of employees at the Phase II of the Lesotho water project very seriously. Brown said that the LHDA has taken swift action to contain the outbreak and prevent further exposure.

“An isolation hall has been created at one of the sites, and since the above reported numbers and interventions, there have been no new cases recorded,” Brown concluded.
