Energy Minister, Professor Nqosa Mahao, has stated that he has informed the cabinet about the role of politicians in contributing to the chronic issues at Lesotho’s utility company – Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC).

“LEC in is ICU (Intensive Care Unit),” Prof Mahao informed parliament during his ministry’s appearance before the Natural Resources Committee today.

He added: “If the consumer tariff remains at M160, as it has for over 20 years, due to political fear of losing votes, we are essentially protecting what is economically untenable, it cannot work.”
