Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, has applauded journalists in the southern African region for their relentless efforts in reporting on issues that matter most to communities.

Moorosi highlighted key areas such as health, the environment, education, and politics, noting the dedication and resilience journalists exhibit in their work.

“The courage, diligence, and integrity that these journalists display in the face of adversity deserve our recognition and support,” Moorosi said.

She made these remarks at a ceremony held on January 24, 2025, to honour Lesotho nationals who emerged as winners in the 2024 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards.

“With this ceremony, we do not only honour individual achievements, but we also highlight the collective contribution of the media to the development and integration of our region.”

Moorosi emphasised that the awards are a powerful testament to the media’s vital role in shaping societies across the region.

“Through these awards, we are not only recognising the outstanding work of journalists but also reaffirming the pivotal role of media in the democratic development of the region.”

She added: “Through this award ceremony, we aim to inspire a new generation of journalists who will continue to build on the legacy of their predecessors, pushing boundaries, embracing new technologies, and promoting the values of freedom of expression, human rights, and social justice.”
