Lesotho Facing Hard Times – Minister Tau

Limpho Tau, a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, says Lesotho is going through difficult times, with drought-induced food insecurity worsening the country’s struggle to feed its population.

“The climate and weather pattern has really changed. We are definitely going through hard times. We are still within the food emergency disaster pillars, as declared last year by the Prime Minister.

“Already – and I want to repeat – already, we are going through tough times where crops are once again already finding it very difficult due to absence of rain. Crops are at critical pollinating stage, but rain is not just there,” Tau said.

He made these remarks during the opening of the two-day National Dialogue for Disaster Preparedness in Maseru, which began on January 29 and concludes today, January 30, 2025.

Tau expressed confidence that by the end of the dialogue, Lesotho will have a stronger and more unified approach to disaster risk management. Listen to his full speech by clicking the audio below:
