In 2017, Limpho Thoahlane was poised for a significant shift in her life’s journey. As an aspiring fashion design student, she was on the brink of making her mark in the creative world. However, life had a different script in store.

This year was profoundly marked by personal tragedy: the loss of her mother. This heartbreaking event was not only a source of deep personal grief for Limpho but also mirrored a broader cultural challenge in Lesotho—the destabilisation of a family with the loss of its matriarch. This pivotal moment compelled Limpho to make the difficult decision to leave school.

In her quest for a fresh start and a sanctuary for healing, Limpho relocated to Morija. There, she found comfort and support from her relatives and a sense of community at the Morija Arts Centre and The Hub. Both are vital non-governmental organisations that play a transformative role in the lives of young people this side.

It was at The Hub where Limpho began to explore and refine her skills in photography and film, uncovering new avenues for her creative expression and a rejuvenated sense of purpose.

Additionally, her time at The Hub was a period of deep immersion into the issues of climate change. This newfound knowledge ignited a burning passion for environmental activism, eventually leading to the inception of Pheha Plastic. This unique enterprise, born from Limpho’s commitment to the environment, specialises in turning recycled plastic into distinctive, sustainable products.
